In a recent meeting with the press, the CEO of Toyota indicated that the Toyota Principle of “going and seeing for yourself” problem areas requiring resolution, may undergo a change. COVID ad helped their senior staff to cope with handling issues from a distance, and this learning has been positive. The world has adopted a number of manufacturing Principles from this Organization – Genchi Genbutsu-“real place real thing” being one of them. The CEO acknowledged that teleconferencing had cut down on paperwork, shortened time. Equally importantly, it is no longer impolite to talk with peers from other institutions, rather than adopt the courtesy of personal meetings.
